Derek's embroidered quilt

Derek's Embroidered Alphabet Quilt

I found the embroidery designs for this quilt on www.designsbysick.com. My youngest son, Derek, is visually impaired and I wanted something bright for him. He can see some things but the doctor says they are dim.

The designs, all 26 of them, took me over a month to stitch out. I would stitch one or two designs a night and would skip a couple of days here and there. I chose the bright lime green background to give them a good contrast.

I ended up cutting them down to 6 inch blocks. I didn't have a clue as to what I was making at the beginning so there was no set design. It just sort of evolved.

I searched through my fabric stash and found a bold red fabric that I used as cornerstones to the wavy colorful striped sashing. I also had some black with colored balls on it that I used to separate the sashing from the border. The bright bold ball fabric was found several months earlier during a shop hop and it seemed perfect for this quilt.

The binding is a simulated grass pattern and just seemed to shout "Put me on that quilt". I quilted it in the ditch around all the blocks and used various sized circles in the border. Ta-daaaa! Ready for snuggle time.
