Celtic Knot Work Tree of Life
Another custom quilt I am making for a client. This quilt will be shipped up to Canada when it is finished.

The concept sketch. Created with Picture It.

The background of the quilt is complete. I am working on the knots now. I had to change the scale of the borders to make sure it will be queen sized.

All the Celtic knot work is made from custom cut bias tubes, then are invisible machine appliquéd to form the designs. The center knots are larger widths of fabric to add drama and pull your eyes to the center. The white lines are actually a temporary adhesive to hold the fabric in place until it can be sewn down.

The inner knots are complete and time for the hardest part, the outer knot work. This will be one large knot that will wrap around the whole quilt.

Three sides are complete, only one side left to go.

All the stitches are in place for the outer knot work. The leaves are hand painted with fabric paints to add depth and texture.

The decorative swirls are pieced together separate from the top, then will be appliquéd in place.

The quilt top is finished. This was definitely a challenge. Time to load it on the frame for the quilting.

I am planning a swirling meander mixed with various leaf shapes in the main field, and echo quilting around the knot work. Details to the leaves will also be quilted in.

Here it is getting loaded on the frame.

Trying to work on it during the summer is hard to do since my youngest, Derek, demands a lot of attention. It will be finished soon.

It is quilted!!!

It is finished. I had a formal textile art appraisal done on it. The appraiser set its replacement value at $2,800.00.
